Meghan Markle has revealed the one rule she despised whilst living an “inauthentic” royal life.
In a recent interview, as part of the promotion for season two of Netflix’s With Love, Meghan series, the Duchess of Sussex sat down to discuss her life away from royalty.
Speaking to Emily Chang for Bloomberg Originals’ The Circuit, Meghan explained there was one part of royal life she was extremely happy to leave behind, and it’s something most people would not have guessed.
In the segment titled “Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, on Life and Business Beyond the Royal Spotlight”, the 44-year-old told Emily that she didn’t appreciate continuously wearing nude pantyhose. “I had to wear nude pantyhose all the time… that was not very myself,” Meghan said.
She further noted that whilst it might be a “silly example”, to her it exemplifies how “inauthentic” her royal life was.
“That felt a little bit inauthentic, but that’s a silly example, but that’s an example of when you’re able to dress the way you want to dress, you’re able to say the things that are true and you’re able to show up in a space really organically and authentically, that’s being comfortable in your own skin,” The Duchess said, adding, “Right now, I don’t feel I need to prove anything.”
Meghan also explained that she didn’t feel that she had the same voice then that she has now, telling Emily, “It was different several years ago, I couldn’t be as vocal.”

However, Hello!’s Royal Reporter explained when and why the British Royal Family wears pantyhose, claiming that it depends on the type of social event they’re attending.
“Wearing tights isn’t a protocol as such, but it has been viewed as an unwritten rule that royal ladies wear tights during public engagements, with the likes of the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Edinburgh following the late Queen Elizabeth II’s lead,” Danielle Stacey revealed. “We have seen a few occasions when the royals have chosen to go bare-legged, but this is generally for less formal engagements.”
Yet this isn’t the only fashion protocol the family has to follow, as royals are expected to travel with a spare black outfit in case of a family death. This is so that when they arrive back in the UK, they are dressed appropriately for the occasion.
