Seth MacFarlane’sDungeon Crawler Carl just made its first major casting move, and fans of the audiobooks will love it. The Peacock series found its Princess Donut in someone who already knows the character better than anyone.

Audiobook star Jeff Hays will voice Princess Donut in Peacock’s live-action Dungeon Crawler Carl TV series, according to a press release from NBCUniversal.
Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door and Universal Global Television are producing the adaptation of Matt Dinniman’s bestselling LitRPG novels. Notably, the announcement came during Penguin Random House’s Spotlight on Matt Dinniman panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
Hays surprised fans by joining a conversation between series writer Chris Yost and author Dinniman live on stage. Additionally, he narrates and produces all eight currently released Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobooks. This marks the first casting news since Peacock ordered the show to series last month.
For the uninitiated, Princess Donut is a tiara-wearing talking cat who belonged to Carl’s ex-girlfriend, Beatrice. An alien attack forces Carl and remaining human survivors underground into a televised competition. As a result, Carl teams up with Donut as his partner in the deadly intergalactic game show.
Meanwhile, Chris Yost serves as writer and showrunner on the series. He will executive produce alongside MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, and Rachel Hargreaves-Heald for Fuzzy Door. Dinniman also serves as co-executive producer on the adaptation.
Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl series has sold over 14 million copies across all formats. Furthermore, on Audible, the Hays-narrated series has clocked over 140 million listening hours. Ace’s print editions have landed on the New York Times bestseller list for over 115 weeks. The series currently consists of eight books out of a total of 10 planned novels. Matthew N. Sugarman at Weintraub Tobin represents Hays.
