Famous Faces Missing From Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Kathleen Turner is a legend of stage and screen, and it’s always a privilege to see her working the red carpet.

The legendary actress, 71, made a rare appearance at the New York City premiere of The Roses at the Hudson Theatre on Monday. The black comedy, based on the 1981 novel The War of the Roses by Warren Adler, tells the story of a couple, Ivy and Theo, played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman, who face a crossroads in their troubled relationship. Andy Samberg, Kate McKinnon, and Allison Janney have supporting roles in the film.

It would only be appropriate to have Turner at the premiere of the film, since she starred opposite Michael Douglas in the 1989 film adaptation of the book, which was a runaway hit directed by Danny DeVito. The legendary actress wore a full-length black dress for the occasion, along with black sandals. While her arm was in a sling, there was no word about the cause of her injury. She also walked with a cane. Smiling brightly for the camera, Turner appeared happy to be at the big event.

Was Turner Okay With Another Remake of the Film?

Turner made it clear from the start that she was comfortable with the film being remade, despite being such an iconic part of the original. Ahead of the premiere, she told USA TODAY that she would be there to support it, no matter what.

“I do plan to see The Roses at the premiere in NYC,” she told the paper ahead of the big premiere. “Should be fun and I have a bet with myself that they don’t die,” she added, referencing several wild scenes from the original film when the couple battled each other.

Looking back on her time making the film with Douglas, Turner shared that the feelings that come with making a movie about divorce can be heavy. However, the stars made sure to keep their relationships intact.

“I remember that sometimes the anger seemed too real, so we made a pact that no one left set without hugging the others!” Turner said. “I don’t think these are the feelings brought up by divorce − at least I surely hope not.”

Turner also has a big fan in Cumberbatch, who said he was a big fan of the original.

“It was an iconic film that we both remember from our youth,” he told the publication, “and (we’re) big Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas fans.”
