Season 8 of “The Rookie” will kick off in Prague.
Several stars of the ABC police procedural were spotted filming in the Czech Republic city, thus confirming their returns to “The Rookie.” Recurring villain Monica Stevens (Bridget Regan) is back in action after getting an immunity deal during season 7.
Nathan Fillion, who stars as Officer John Nolan, was seen shooting a scene in Prague with Regan and Jenna Dewan, who plays John Nolan’s wife, fire Lieutenant Bailey Nune. It seems that John will be forced to team up with Monica in season 8 of “The Rookie,” thanks to her immunity deal.
“Ultimately, [Monica’s immunity storyline is] going to generate some great stories for us going forward, like our trip to Prague, because ultimately, part of her immunity deal is helping us catch a few bad guys,” showrunner Alexi Hawley told Collider in August. “So, now she becomes part of the team. It’s a weird thing.”
Monica isn’t the only villain returning for season 8 of “The Rookie,” which will premiere in 2026 as part of ABC’s midseason lineup. Matthew Glave will also reprise his role as antagonist Oscar Hutchinson, who escaped the LAPD during the season 7 finale.

Not everyone will be back for the next chapter. Patrick Keleher, who made his debut as the deceptive Seth Ridley during season 7 of “The Rookie,” won’t be back. However, Hawley did tell TVLine that Seth could return further down the line.
“Something shocking deserved to happen [to the character], and then we’ll see where it goes,” he said. Seth lied about having cancer during his time as an LAPD rookie. He later got shot and needed to have his leg amputated, which put his law enforcement career on pause.
Aside from Keleher, the rest of “The Rookie” season 7 main cast will be back for the next installment. Shawn Ashmore (Wesley Evers), Deric Augustine (Miles Penn), Lisseth Chavez (Celina Juarez), Mekia Cox (Nyla Harper), Arjay Smith (James Murray), Alyssa Diaz (Angela Lopez), Richard T. Jones (Wade Grey), Melissa O’Neil (Lucy Chen), and Eric Winter (Tim Bradford) will all reprise their roles.
It’s unclear whether Zander Hawley, who is Alexi’s son, will be back as musician Rodge Bronson. Rodge and Celina sparked a romance during season 7, but Alexi told Us Weekly that he isn’t “100 percent sure” whether the pair will continue dating in season 8.
