Cameron Mathison’s Drew Cain has been receiving hate from the General Hospital fandom. Much of the criticism stems from Drew’s unpleasant/controversial actions, such as his mistreatment of his daughter, Scout, and his affair with Willow Corinthos, whom he has frequently manipulated. The hatred has now reached a point where fans are demanding that the makers remove the popular villain from the soap opera. Drew has been a prominent staple of the series since 2014 and has been played by multiple actors, including Mathison and the late Billy Miller.

General Hospital fans really can’t take Drew any more
A social media user recently expressed their dislike for Drew on Facebook‘s General Hospital Fans page. She wrote, “I don’t care how great an actor Drew is! GET RID OF HIM!”

Many fans concurred with the user. One suggested that the current storyline involving Drew had gone past its prime months ago. Another wrote, “I agree…this storyline is a year old and needs to go…its ruinging the show.”
One viewer called for Katey MacMullen’s Willow to be removed from the soap opera, along with Drew.
Mathison has acknowledged the fan hate towards Drew twice. In a January 2025 interview with Woman’s World, the All My Children alum revealed that he “never had people hate [him] so much.”
“I went to Christmas Con, and almost everybody in line was livid at Drew,” he added. “I’m trying to take smiley pictures with a Christmas tree in the background, and they’re throwing things at me,” Mathison revealed, noting that he is aware of the hate his character is drawing.
More recently, his General Hospital co-star, Laura Wright — who plays Carly Spencer — took to Instagram Stories to praise the scenes between Drew and Alexis, wherein the former took away access to Scout.
Wright compared Mathison’s Drew to the popular TV series Dallas’ villain J.R. Ewing, who was considered both one of the most hated men on television and one of the most iconic characters. She wrote, “These scenes were so good!!!! Cameron you’re the new JR Ewing !!! Haaa. Woohoo.” Mathison reshared Wright’s story, which went viral on social media. (via Soap Hub)
However, one fan didn’t agree with Wright’s sentiments. They claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that Drew Cain was worse than J.R. Ewing, even though they didn’t see Dallas.
