NELSONVILLE — Stuart’s Opera House and the Ohio University Performing Arts & Concert Series will welcome LADAMA to the Snow Fork Event Center, home of the Nelsonville Music Festival, for a free Creekside Concert on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m.
Formed by musicians from Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela, LADAMA has spent the last decade breaking barriers as one of the music industry’s pioneering female collectives. Featuring Lara Klaus (Brazil), Daniela Serna (Colombia) and Mafer Bandola (Venezuela), the group blends the traditions of Latin America with modern sounds to create a rich and dynamic sonic experience. Their music incorporates instruments like the bandola llanera, tambor alegre and pandeiro, weaving together rhythm, percussion and song in Spanish, Portuguese and English. With albums such as their self-titled debut and “Oye Mujer,” LADAMA reimagines South American and Caribbean styles – like cumbia, maracatu, joropo, and onda nueva – infusing them with soul, R&B and pop. Their performances deliver a journey through cultures and soundscapes, embodying their mission to use music as a tool for connection and empowerment.
Earlier that day, LADAMA will also provide a special workshop for students in Stuart’s Afterschool Music Program. “We are so excited to welcome LADAMA to provide a workshop to our Afterschool Music Program students here at Stuart’s Opera House,” said Assistant Director of Arts Education Adam Remnant. “Our students are sure to be inspired by LADAMA’s music and social mission of empowering youth through music. A goal of our program is to introduce multiple genres and forms of musical expression to our students, and LADAMA is sure to provide us with a deeply enriching musical experience with their musical influences from Latin America and beyond.”
This Creekside Concert is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to enjoy an evening of music at Snow Fork Event Center’s Creekside Stage.
