Howard Stern needs some more time before revealing the future of his SiriusXM show.
The radio host was set to return to his SiriusXM show Tuesday morning, after nearly a month of teasing a big reveal surrounding rumors that his show would be canceled. But early Tuesday morning, The Howard Stern Show’s social accounts delayed the announcement a week, posting that “Howard Stern will now speak Monday, September 8,” urging listeners to “stay tuned.” A re-run episode aired instead.

Rumors about Stern’s possible retirement started on in early August when the Daily Mail reported that his “long-running SiriusXM radio show is in jeopardy as the end of his $500 million five-year contract looms.” One source told the outlet that Stern was considering signing a one or two-year contract, while another said they would officially be parting ways. The Sun, meanwhile, reported that the show was set to end due to SiriusXM and Stern’s inability to come to terms on a new contract.
As the rumor began to grow — President Trump even chimed in. “Howard Stern is a name I haven’t heard,” he said. “I used to do his show. We used to have fun, but I haven’t heard that name in a long time. What happened? He got terminated? You know when he went down? When he endorsed Hillary Clinton, he lost his audience.” — Stern continued to lay low and enjoy his summer hiatus.
However, he finally emerged on August 15 and attempted to regain the news cycle, posting a promo that leaned into the drama. “The tabloids have spoken: Howard Stern fired, canceled, is it really ‘Bye-Bye Booey’? Chaos is swirling at The Howard Stern Show,” said a narrator in the promo that ran on SiriusXM. “Did staffers talk to the press? Are writers withholding their best jokes? Nobody knows what’s going on or who to trust.”
“Now we can reveal all the questions will be answered, all the truths will be told by the one man truly on the inside,” it continued. “Howard Stern will speak Tuesday September 2.”
