Dexter Fletcher Tackling Remake of British Heist Movie ‘The League of Gentlemen’ for Paramount

Dexter Fletcher, perhaps best known for helming Elton John biopic Rocketman, is attached to direct The League of Gentlemen, Paramount Pictures’ reimagining of a 1960 British heist movie.

Bek Smith, who earned a story credit on the billion-dollar-grossing Moana 2, wrote the script.

The feature project is described as a modern-day remake of the 1960 movie of the same name. That film, which adapted a 1958 novel by John Boland, told of former British Army officers who rob a bank in London. Jack Hawkins and Richard Attenborough were among the stars.

Opera and theater producer Dalia Ibelhauptaitė, who is married to Fletcher, is attached to exec produce. Michael Attenborough, Richard Attenborough’s son, and Emma Forbes, daughter of the original movie’s screenwriter, Bryan Forbes, are also exec producing.

Fletcher has been involved in the project since early 2024, but his role has only come to light now. The project was in development at Skydance but has now migrated to Paramount in the wake of the merger.

Smith came out of the Marvel writers program and has worked on several features in development, including an adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic book Reborn for Netflix and the DC/Vertigo title 100 Bullets for New Line.

Fletcher was an actor before transitioning to directing movies, including Eddie the Eagle, which starred Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman. In addition to the well-regarded Rocketman, he is known for replacing Bryan Singer as the director of the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. He last directed the big-budget Apple TV/Skydance movie Ghosted, which starred Chris Evans and Ana de Armas.

Fletcher is repped by CAA and Sloan Offer, Smith by Verve, Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and Ginsburg Daniels.
