MrBeast Is Married! Inside the YouTube Star’s ‘Intimate’ Necker Island Wedding to Thea Booysen

MrBeast (né Jimmy Donaldson), 28, tied the knot with fellow content creator Thea Booysen, 28, during an ‘intimate’ wedding at Richard Branson’s Necker Island, in front of 70 friends and family members. The event kicked off on July 14 and took place over the course of a week at the 74-acre private island resort, combining both the nuptials and fun-filled days of festivities.

After several days of wedding guests mingling and participating in island activities including kitesurfing and snorkeling (and feeding the kangaroos and lemurs that live on the island!), the couple exchanged vow in a ceremony officiated by an ordained minister, who was a family friend.

The bride wore a custom dress by Nicole + Felicia Couture, and Donaldson wore a tux by Ralph Lauren.

Booysen’s bridal robe was by Banke Kuku, and her makeup was done by Lola’s Beauty Mark, with her hair styled by Mikey Lu. Her entire look was styled by Jeremy Noig, while celebrity event planner Marcy Blum planned the wedding week festivities. The music and entertainment was provided by On the Move Entertainment.

Following their vows, the newlyweds entered the reception and had their first dance to Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ song “Die With a Smile.” After a night of dancing to a live band, guests retreated back to the main house to keep the party going, which Booysen joked was mostly “nerdy” things like card games and board games.

At the reception, guests feasted on a massive variety of “incredible” foods, including sushi, Wagyu beef and fish, and for their wedding cake, they opted carrot, Booysen’s favorite.

Donaldson first met Booysen, a fellow gamer and internet personality from South Africa, in 2022 when he was visiting her home country. During the trip, he went to dinner with a mutual friend who invited Booysen to join them.

“When I met him, I was quite surprised how down-to-earth he was, and also how intelligent he was,” Booysen recalled. “I thought YouTubers were just sort of a persona, but when I met him, I was quite surprised to see that he’s actually a nice guy. He wasn’t sitting there with an ego.”

MrBeast said they “vibed instantly” and bonded over their passion for learning. Because they had a “strong connection,” MrBeast sent Booysen a DM on X after he returned to the United States. About a month later, the pair began dating long-distance and planning visits.

The couple made their first public appearance at the Kids’ Choice Awards in April 2022, with Booysen later describing it as an “amazing night” on Instagram.

MrBeast then popped the question on Christmas Day in 2024 at their home surrounded by their families, who were in on the surprise.

“I intentionally dropped a large box to make noise before presenting the real gift — with the ring inside — to her. And then I went down on a knee and proposed,” he recalled.

Despite being one of the most popular and highest-paid content creators, MrBeast told PEOPLE at the time that he didn’t want his big day to be in the spotlight, with no cameras other than their professional wedding photographer.

“This will definitely be more family and friends — definitely more private,” he explained of his wedding. “It will be the ultimate way to take some time away and enjoy things.”

The duo say the event couldn’t have been more perfect.

“This is cliché, but it was heaven,” Booysen says.

“We were so happy, and there was so much love. We work a lot and don’t get to be around all our friends and family, so to have everyone in one place was really special. We decided we want to start doing something like this every year, where we put aside a week to have our friends and family join us to spend time together, and all the guests said the same thing.”

Now they’re looking forward to being husband and wife.

“It sounds silly, but this is really just a formality,” Booysen says of the wedding. “Ever since we started dating we’ve been doing it with the goal of marriage. The difference is now the world knows we’re married, but we’ll still come home to our house and dogs and cats, and then we’re off to our next adventure!”

She adds of their special day, “Jimmy really went out of his way to make all the guests super comfortable and feel included, and got to know my extended family, and it was all so incredibly special. It just made me love him all the more.”
