In the K-Pop world, ‘training’ refers to the famously-intense process through which young singers are shaped into professional performers. But SM Entertainment is now exploring an area where training means something very different: GenAI music.
It has signed a deal with startup Verses to use the latter’s ‘multimodal AI rapmaker’ product Rappie. SM will be using the technology for a “new artist project” that will involve “official tracks produced with renowned composers and culminate in an immersive XR (Extended Reality) concert”. Details of the composers involved have not been announced yet.
Verses has previously worked with K-Pop group Aespa on a metaverse project: founders Sean Lee and Kyungtae Kim told our Music Ally Focus podcast all about that in March last year. Now it appears to be focusing on GenAI music too.
