Brisbane-born, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Hatchie – the project of Harriette Pilbeam – is back, today announcing her highly anticipated new album, Liquorice.
The follow-up to 2022’s Giving The World Away (and the 2023 deluxe edition), Hatchie’s forthcoming album will be released on Friday, 7 November, via Secretly Canadian. You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.
Along with the album announcement, she’s dropped the dreamy new single, Lose It Again. For the new single, Hatchie co-wrote the track with Jeremy McLennan (Orchin), and she’s just unveiled a music video from her longtime collaborator and partner, Joe Agius, which you can watch below.
Hatchie collaborated closely with artist and producer Melina Duterte (also known as Jay Som) on Liquorice, recording in Duterte’s home studio. She also joined forces with Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint, Courtney Barnett) on drums, while the album was mixed by Alex Farrar (Wednesday, MJ Lenderman) and mastered by Greg Obis (Dutch Interior, Slow Pulp, Wishy).
After living in Los Angeles, Hatchie and Agius stepped away from touring. They returned to Australia, where Hatchie reassessed her priorities and had time to focus on her friends and family. As a result, Liquorice reflects the comfort Hatchie feels in her own skin, content with where she’s at in life.
She began working on Liquorice while living in Brisbane in 2022-2023 and continued working on the album from Melbourne. For her latest project, Hatchie wrote from scratch without musical inspirations in mind.

“This album feels like the culmination of everything I’ve wanted to do with this project since I first started it,” Hatchie explained. “I focused on the finer details of the trajectory of love found and lost, inspired by my favourite tragic romance films. I’ve never felt more aligned with an album and can’t wait to share the experience with everyone.”
She added, “Ultimately, the inspiration for the album came from living a very simple life and having time to reconnect with myself and be alone with my thoughts. I wanted to see my limitations as strengths that inform my style.”
Fans in Brisbane this week might get a taste of new music from Hatchie as she appears at BIGSOUND. After her appearance at the BIGSOUND River Cruise yesterday and the artist-on-artist interview with Phoebe Rings today, she has the following events booked:
