The feud between Stephen Colbert and Donald Trump continues as the late night host fires back at the president’s latest claims about Chicago.
The 61-year-old comedian started off The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Sept. 3 with an expletive-ridden monologue directed at the U.S. president.
Over the past few weeks, Trump has been calling Chicago everything under the sun from a “disaster” to a “killing hole,” leading him to deploy National Guard troops into the city. Now, Colbert has something to say about it: “How dare you sir.”
Answering back to the president’s claims, the host said, “Chicago is not a hellhole right now,” before joking, “Chicago is not a hellhole until February. Then, then, it is subzero windswept vista of frozen Lake Michigan, trudging out of your affordable apartment to meet your improv friends at Twin Anchors for a craft beer and a double cheeseburger.”
“Hellhole. Mmm. Hellhole,” he added.
Colbert also brought up Trump’s Truth Social post from the day prior. He wrote, “Chicago is the worst and most dangerous city in the world, by far.”
The host replied, “Worst and most dangerous? Two words: F— You!”
“You know what? Two other words. Daytona Beach,” he continued.
Colbert went on to point out “22 major cities” with higher murder rates, after Trump had said the Windy City was “the murder capital of the world.”
“This is a scary time for the people of Chicago. And I love the people of Chicago. I used to be a person of Chicago. In fact, I lived there 11 years,” he mentioned. “Lived there seven years. Started my career there. We took our show to Chicago last summer, had an amazing time.”
“But come to think of it, you know what? A lot of us did come home murdered,” he lastly quipped.

Colbert’s relationship with Trump has been causing a frenzy lately, especially since many speculate that the president had something to do with the host’s show getting cancelled.
Last month, Colbert criticized the president and Paramount for their $16 million settlement on a lawsuit the president filed over the way a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris was edited in the lead-up to the 2024 election.
Commenting on the issue, Stephen said, “I believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles: it’s ‘big, fat bribe.’”
Just three days later, the network announced it would be cancelling the beloved late night talk show.
