With only two more episodes left in the season, The Summer I Turned Pretty is winding down fast. Fans are getting antsy for a Bonrad endgame, and they’re taking it out on author and showrunner Jenny Han. Unfortunately for the haters, they failed to remember that they are sparring with a professional writer, and Jenny’s response to all those Summer I Turned Pretty criticisms proves she’s going to have the last laugh.
After watching Belly and Jeremiah call off their wedding last week, fans were hopeful that they’d get to see Belly and Conrad reconnect in season 3, episode 9. Instead, the episode— titled “Last Call”—focused more on Jeremiah’s post-wedding crash out than anything else, which led fans to comment bomb Jenny’s Instagram and TikTok.
“Jenny? What was today’s episode girl? That was a filler episode and an AirTag and Gatorade ad,” one commenter wrote on Instagram. “Jenny Han, explain this mess of an episode immediately,” another wrote. Believe it or not, those were some of the nicer comments.
“You’re absolutely hopeless. This was the last thing we as fans expected from you,” one angry fan commented on Instagram, according to a screenshot on Twitter. “You dragged the entire Jeremiah nonsense for no reason, completely ruining the flow. You’re not doing justice to the show at all. And now in a rush you’ll butcher the Belly Conrad ending too. You’ve ruined everything today.”
To which Jenny responded, “🥴 Sorry to disappoint?”
That wasn’t the only piece of fan criticism that caught Jenny’s eye. Over on TikTok, one wrote, “Jenny we don’t have time for this, there’s two episodes left and you gave us NOTHING this episode!”
Jenny’s response? “I gave you the last 4 years of my life, I have given all I have to give, enjoy!”
Fair enough!
Of course, not everyone hated the episode. Stephen and Taylor shippers were more than happy to see them find their way back to each other, and personally, I’m excited to see Belly discover herself in Paris. I trust Jenny to take us to the Bonrad endgame we all deserve.
