Following the recent Skydance acquisition, CEO David Ellison announced a mandated return to office
Thursday morning, Paramount Chairman and CEO David Ellison announced a mandated return to office in a company-wide email. The announcement to employees follows the recent, and highly publicized, Skydance acquisition.
The Thursday morning email, which was obtained by Deadline, outlined the intention to “begin a phased return-to-office plan starting in January 2026, ultimately moving towards an in-person work environment where employees are in the office full-time (five days a week).”
The email goes on to break down the plan into two phases. Phase one will begin in the new year on January 5th, impacting employees assigned to Paramount’s Los Angeles and New York City offices. Phase two will be announced later in the year and will impact those assigned to other offices, work from home, and all international locations.
For employees who do not wish to return to the office, or can not return for that matter, Paramount if offering an opt-in severance program. “Starting today through September 15, 2025, we will be offering a severance opt-in program for VPs and below, based in Los Angeles and New York, who cannot or do not wish to return full-time. Details will be shared directly with those eligible.”
This mandate, while new for Paramount, is not the first of it’s type in the industry. Amazon MGM studios also has a in-office five-days-a-week mandate. On the other hand, studios such as Disney, NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. still remain on a hybrid schedule.
The Skydance Media and Paramount Global merger was made official via a press release August 7th. The $8.4 billion deal handed over control of a historic family business originally purchased by the late Sumner Redstone in 1987, later taken over officially by his daughter Shari in 2019.
“Thank you for your patience, adaptability, and continued dedication. Together, we
are building a company that is stronger, more innovative, and ready to win. The
opportunity ahead is extraordinary, and I’m confident that working side by side,
we will achieve great things” the email concluded.
