The Sex Pistols’ first United States tour in 22 years has been halted due to an injury among the band.
The band’s tour was postponed after guitarist Steve Jones broke his wrist, singer Frank Carter wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
“We have some unfortunate news to share about our upcoming North and South American performances,” Carter wrote. “We’ll let Steve explain what’s going on.”
The post then included a message from Jones.
“I’ve got some good news and bad news. What do you want first? Okay, the bad news: I’ve broken my wrist, so unfortunately we won’t be doing any shows for a while,” the musician wrote.
“The good news is the surgeon said I will be back playing guitar in the not-too-distant future. The other good news is I’ll be 70 tomorrow,” Jones wrote. “God bless, and God save the wrist.”
The Sex Pistols’ tour, which was slated to start on Sept. 16, will be rescheduled when Jones has fully recovered.
“Please check local venue websites and our social media for more information,” Carter wrote. “We appreciate your understanding and support.”
The Sex Pistols announced their fall tour back in April. The North American shows are the band’s first since 2003, according to the Associated Press.
The new shows will feature original band members Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock. Carter, who fronted a few U.K. shows for the Sex Pistols last year, took over for original lead singer Johnny Rotten, from whom the band is estranged.
Rotten, who the rest of the Sex Pistols did not want on the tour, has publicly clashed with his former bandmates repeatedly over the years, including suing over the 2022 FX TV series “Pistol” that was based on a memoir by Jones.
“The last thing he wants to do is have anything to do with us right now,” Jones told the AP while referring to the lawsuit.
“Good luck to him,” Matlock told the news outlet. “I wish he thinks, maybe, ‘good luck’ to us. Probably doesn’t. But over the years, John (has had) all our phone numbers, and I can’t see many missed calls from him.”
At the same time, Rotten told The Independent in April that he would never rejoin the Sex Pistols “not after what I consider their dirty deeds.”
“They’ve killed the content, or done their best to, and turned the whole thing into a rubbish, childishness, and that’s unacceptable,” Rotten said. “Sorry, I’m not going to give a helping hand to this any longer, as far as I am concerned, I am the Pistols, and they’re not.”
Formed in London in 1975, the Sex Pistols only released one studio album, 1977’s “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.” The album featured songs including “Pretty Vacant,” “Anarchy in the U.K.” and “God Save the Queen.”
