Dan Levy and his new mom were in New Jersey today filming their series “Bad Mistakes.”
Levy, who started filming the series locally last month, was in Edison with fellow four-time Emmy winner Laurie Metcalf working on the upcoming Netflix show.
Known for co-creating and starring in “Schitt’s Creek,” Levy is also the co-creator, showrunner and star of “Bad Mistakes.”
Metcalf plays his mother in the show, a “dysfunctional” family crime comedy about “two deeply incapable siblings who are blackmailed into the world of organized crime.”
New Jersey actor Taylor Ortega (Nadine in “Welcome to Flatch”), who grew up in East Windsor, plays Levy’s sister in the series.
The cast also includes Abby Quinn (“Mad About You,” “Little Women,” “Radium Girls”), who joined Metcalf and Levy on set in Edison.

Announcing the show, Levy said it’s been his “life’s mission” to call Metcalf his mother. The veteran actor won three Emmys for “Roseanne” and one for “Hacks.”
“This show has taken me on a truly wild ride and I am so f–king excited to finally share it with youuuuu,” Levy, 42, said on Instagram at the time. “Follow through, pals. You’ll be glad you did.”
The show filmed at a private home on Old Post Road in Edison as well as at Edison Millwork and Hardware, also on Old Post Road. Per information from the set, the house plays “the Malinowski residence” in the show.
Levy, who won four Emmys for “Schitt’s Creek” in 2020 — for outstanding comedy series, writing, directing and best supporting actor in a comedy series — created “Bad Mistakes” with actor and writer Rachel Sennott.

Sennott is known for her breakout role in the movie “Shiva Baby” (2021) and her starring roles in “Bottoms” (2023), which she co-wrote, and “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies“ (2022).
Levy created “Schitt’s Creek” with his father, veteran actor and comedian Eugene Levy, who starred in the show as his character David Rose’s father, Johnny Rose.
“Big Mistakes” is scheduled to film in New Jersey through early October.
The show is among many Netflix TV and movie titles that have been filming in Jersey this summer — well ahead of the planned opening of the streamer’s film studio at Fort Monmouth in 2028.

Others that have filmed locally in recent months are “Little Brother,” a film comedy starring Eric André and John Cena; “72 Hours,” another comedy starring Kevin Hart; and Lena Dunham’s “Good Sex,” a rom-com starring Natalie Portman, Mark Ruffalo, Rashida Jones, Meg Ryan and Tucker Pillsbury (the singer Role Model).
Wednesday saw the trailer release for Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow’s nuclear missile thriller “A House of Dynamite,” which premiered at the Venice Film Festival Monday, started filming in New Jersey last year and arrives on Netflix in October.
