Jimmy Fallon will take NBC’s “Tonight Show” to Detroit for a special episode, one of a handful of non-traditional broadcasts of the program he is undertaking in the fall.
The late-night host will tape one “Tonight” episode at the Detroit Opera House on Sunday, September 14, and it will air the following night, September 15, on NBC. Ford Motor Co., a longtime sponsor of “Tonight,” will support the special broadcast. The large automaker has been a backer of the facility and its arts mission for more than two decades.

Fallon is also taping special “Tonight” broadcasts meant to air Sunday nights following NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” and late local news on its various affiliates. Those editions will air once a month or so, starting September 21. Matthew McConaughey and Eric Church will serve as guests.
This is the second year that Fallon has undertaken the special after-football broadcasts. He has also led a unique “Tonight Show” in 2018 in Minneapolis following an NBC broadcast of Super Bowl LII.
Other late-night hosts have served up bespoke editions of their program following special events. In 2024, CBS aired special editions of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “After Midnight” following the network’s broadcast of Super Bowl LVIII.
“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” is executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Chris Miller and Gerard Bradford. Miller serves as the program’s showrunner. In most cases, “The Tonight Show” tapes before a live studio audience from Studio 6B in 30 Rockefeller Center.
