The Rookie season 8 is set to premiere on ABC in January 2026.
Actress Melissa O’Neil revealed the show is currently in production for new episodes.
She also shared her co-star Lisseth Chavez is on set with her.
Well, The Rookie fans, it looks like we’re one step closer to heading back to LAPD Mid-Wilshire.
With season 8 of the ABC series set to premiere in January 2026, viewers may be wondering what is happening with the show’s cast and crew. While some may think they may be taking it easy and enjoying the last days of summer, it turns out we all missed a very important update from none other than Melissa O’Neil (who plays Lucy Chen) on the current status of The Rookie.
As Melissa shared on Instagram on August 20, she is back on set to film brand new episodes of The Rookie season 8. And if that’s not enough to get fans excited, the photo she posted showed her in costume with Lisseth Chavez (who portrays Celina Juarez) from what looked to be on location at a local motel.
“These ladies are back in action!!!” she excitedly wrote about working on The Rookie season 8 in the caption. “Celina and Lucy: how would you describe them in emoji’s?”
Given how The Rookie isn’t airing on TV for quite some time, seeing this unexpected update from Melissa left fans so excited for the upcoming season.
“CANT WAIT TO SEE U GUYS ON SCREEN AGAIN 🙌,” one person exclaimed in the comments. “MY GIRLS 😍😍😍😍,” another declared. “Favorite show on TV. Can’t wait,” a different follower added.
While we don’t know exactly what Melissa and Lisseth’s characters are up to on The Rookie season 8, this seems to be a promising start! And for those who may remember, Lucy and Celina do happen to be roommates outside of working together at LAPD Mid-Wilshire. So, maybe this is a sign the duo will be in more scenes together? We definitely wouldn’t mind seeing them in action.
Now, can we maybe get the chance to see other cast members (like Nathan Fillion, Eric Winter, and more) on the set of The Rookie, please?
