Jane Seymour Wows in Photo With ‘Endlessly Talented’ Rock Legend

Jane Seymour, who many know as Solitaire in 1973’s Live and Let Die, paid tribute to the late musical icon Freddie Mercury on what would’ve been his 79th birthday.

The English actress posted a rare photo of the two together on Instagram on Sept. 5, beginning her sweet tribute by saying, “Remembering the legendary Freddie Mercury today on his birthday.” In the old black and white photo, Seymour wore an extravagant white ballgown while Mercury had on a military uniform.

She described Mercury as she went on, saying, “He was larger than life, endlessly talented, and so full of joy. I feel lucky to have known him, even briefly, and to carry the memory of that time with me.”

Seymour signed off with a question for fans of Mercury and his band Queen, writing, “Which of his songs still makes you stop and sing along every single time? 🎶.”

Seymour and Mercury posed together in the photo at the Fashion Aid benefit concert on Nov. 5, 1985, which was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England, to raise money to benefit the Ethiopian famine. The event was organized by Irish singer Bob Geldof.

Other major celebrities who attended the event were Anjelica Huston, George Michael, Madonna, Ringo Starr, Jerry Hall, Grace Jones, Kate Bush and more. At the event, Mercury and Seymour held a huge fake wedding ceremony that included an impromptu kiss between the two.

A couple of years ago, Seymour spoke with the BBC about the big event, saying of Mercury, “He was very shy before we went out, then he suddenly became the mercurial Freddie Mercury.”

Praising the moment, she went on, “To this day, as far as my children and a lot of people are concerned, it was the highest, most important moments of my career being Freddie Mercury’s bride.”

Recounting the unexpected kiss, Seymour described how Mercury went on ahead of her during the event, saying, “He’s doing his thing and I’m like the bride trying to catch up.”

“Eventually I do catch up, then he just grabbed me and kissed me, which I was not expecting,” the actress said. “But I was very happy to be kissed by Freddie Mercury.”

Mercury Died in 1991 at the Age of 45

Mercury passed away only six years later from complications of AIDS. The singer was only 45 years old at the time of his death. Despite receiving his HIV diagnosis in 1987, Mercury continued creating music with his band, Queen, which included fellow members Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon.

The late icon’s final album released while he was alive was Innuendo, in February 1991. Mercury also worked on Queen’s final studio album, Made in Heaven, which his bandmates completed and posthumously released in 1995.
