Fans of Ransom Canyon are no doubt excited to find out where Ellie Estevez and Yancy Grey’s romance takes them when season 2 of the Netflix series premieres on Thursday, July 23. But offscreen, the actor behind Yancy is actually dating a different star from the show. Jack Schumacher and Jennifer Ens, who plays Ashley Keo, began dating after meeting while filming season 1.
Now, Jack and Jennifer have not shared too much about this relationship themselves, but who knows, maybe season 2 will really take off and they’ll be asked to comment on it in a bunch of interviews. For now, we know that the relationship was first confirmed by one of their costars and that they have been quite active in each other’s comment sections. Here’s a full rundown of what we know of Jennifer and Jack’s relationship timeline.
February 2024
On Valentine’s Day in 2024, Jack posted a roundup of photos from the Ransom Canyon set, and Jennifer commented some heart emoji.
This seems to be the first time either of them commented on each other’s Instagram account, which makes sense, as the show began filming around that same time.
June 2024
Now these two were big Instagram flirters, so just know we’re skipping some and just going with some of the more notable ones. For example, in June 2024, Jack wrote, “Smokeee” on one of Jennifer’s posts and she replied, “just like you.”
Things are heating up!
July 2024
Another Instagram exchange. A month later, Jack commented, “Babeee,” and Jennifer wrote, “howdy there cowboy.” Appropriate!
Soon after, Jack’s ex, fellow actor Mackinlee Waddell, opened up about her messy split from the Ransom Canyon star, revealing that their January 2022 marriage only “lasted about six months.”
“I was not a child bride, I was just a dumb bitch,” she joked during an interview with Overheard New York, adding that she got married at 26 and divorced in the same year.
“He just shot me a text while I was at coffee,” she claimed. “Four sentences and he was gone…‘Hey Mack, I wish you the best. I don’t wish to continue this marriage, I’m going off the grid.’”
Oop!
November 2024
This is about as close to a relationship confirmation as we got directly from the source: On November 2, 2024, both Jack and Jennifer posted carousels full of pictures from a Halloween party, including a lead photo that shows them posing together with his arm around her.
Nothing says “official” like a coordinated Instagram hard-launch!
February 2025
Again, we’re passing over quite a few Instagram comment exchanges here, including one in which Jennifer called Jack “the most beautiful human in the whole world,” and one in which Jack wrote, “loml” with a fire emoji. They really love a flirty comment! Anyway, in February 2025, Jennifer shared some photos of them together, including one of them walking with their arms around each other.
Fun times, indeed.
April 2025
A Ransom Canyon costar spoke out about the relationship in April 2025. Andrew Liner, who plays Reid Collins, was interviewed by Joely Live. Asked if any stars of the show fell for each other offscreen, he said, “Jack, who plays Yancy, is now dating Jen, who plays Ashley.”
He also revealed that the cast helped get them together, noting, “We all got so close that we were all hanging out all the time. They got little crushes on each other and now look.” The host asked if the relationship was public, and Andrew responded, “Public enough.”
November 2025
Jen dropped a photo dump that included more than a few cute shots of Jack, seemingly confirming that they’re still going strong.
February 2026
Jack’s ex Mackinlee made an appearance on the None of My Business podcast, where she doubled down on her claims about how Jack ended their marriage.
During the interview, she also revealed that she and Jack lived together for five years before he “ghosted” her and that things took a turn after he went to North Carolina to shoot a film (likely The Engagement Plan, based on the timing).
“Things were like…the wheels were coming off. He wouldn’t let me visit,” she explained. “He gets home, I look at his messages and he deleted all of his text threads with a female co-star. Come to find out he was trying to go down on her the whole time.”
Again, oop!
June 2026
Things got a little quiet on social media between seasons of Ransom Canyon. Both actors stopped posting as much, so without either of them—or Andrew “Public Enough” Liner—speaking out, it’s hard to say much about what’s going on between them.
That said, we did get a little bit of positivity as far as them maybe being still together in June. When Jack posted the season 2 trailer, Jen commented, “Yeah” with a bunch of fire emoji. As the new season gets fans excited again, perhaps we’ll hear a little more from these two.
