The star-studded red carpet at the MTV VMAs has closed, and no, Beyoncé did not show up for the glamorous evening. While we’re all disappointed to be missing out on a fabulous Queen B red-carpet moment, nobody is too surprised by her absence.
Tonight could have actually been a historic night for Beyoncé, wherever she may be. The “Texas Hold ’Em” singer was up against Taylor Swift to become the most awarded artist in VMAs history. Currently, both superstars are tied for the title of most career total VMAs, as each one has 30 and they were both nominated in the Artist of the Year category tonight. So if one of them had won it, that person could have claimed victory. In the end, though, Lady Gaga took home the prize.
Bey’s absence tonight comes after the “16 Carriages” singer also skipped the 2024 VMAs despite the fact that she had three nominations. At the time, however, she was also in the middle of her Cowboy Carter Tour, so it made sense that she was unable to make it.
But Bey has actually skipped every Video Music Awards since 2016. That year, she made history with an explosive Lemonade medley that lasted almost 15 minutes.
This year, performers include Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Mariah Carey, and Doja Cat, among several others. As for the top artists of the night, Gaga tops the list with 12 nominations, followed by Bruno Mars with 11 nominations, and Kendrick Lamar with 10 nominations.
