Josh Gad recently discussed his plans for the Chris Farley biopic during an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival. He spoke with EW and gave an update on the project, confirming that it is still moving forward. By Gad’s description, it appears to be a substantial undertaking.
“It’s ambitious as hell,” Gad said. “We’re trying to rein in the budget a little, and the plan is still to shoot early next year.” With concerns about Paul Walter Hauser turning too old to portray Farley, who passed away at the age of 33, Gad emphasized that they are ready to begin filming within the first quarter of 2026.
“I’m in the midst of going through the script right now with the studio, who’s been incredibly supportive about finding those things that can reduce it to a greenlight-able budget because, right now, it’s a period piece, it’s a biopic, it’s just super big, and we’re just working towards doing this to it, and I think we’re getting there,” Gad added.
Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter are writing the script. Meanwhile, Hauser is preparing months in advance to take on this iconic role. The movie remains in the early stages. However, with progress finally being made, more details are expected in the near future.
