Howard Stern lamented on his show that he “can’t leave” Sirius XM amid rumors of his show being canceled.
The host of The Howard Stern Show pranked fans on Monday, September 8, when he had Andy Cohen start the show. The Real Housewives reunion host seemed flustered as he played the part and told everyone that he was taking over from Stern.
About 15 minutes into the “Andy 100” show, Stern took over the mic and informed everyone that he was back and thanked Cohen for his part in the prank. He then addressed the recent rumors of his leaving.
Rumors swirled after it was revealed that Stern’s contract with Sirius XM was up and it was unclear if it was going to be renewed.
Donald Trump called for the show’s cancellation, and theories ran wild after Stern pushed back his return by a week for a then-disclosed reason that turned out to be sickness.
Stern added that he was blown away by the way so many people cared about his return. “And by the way, I’m absolutely flattered that anybody even cares if I resign. So, in a way, it was confirmation that I matter. That it was such big news,” he said.
He complained that friends kept texting him and asking if the news was true. But he did find one silver lining.
“One of the positive things about all this fake news, is that I heard from a lot of companies who want the show,” he explained. “They were like, ‘If you’re not a Sirius anymore, do you want to come with us?’ and I thought that’s really nice.
“But I mean I’m very happy at Sirius. Here’s my point, nothing was happening.”
