Hundreds of students, employees and community members gathered Thursday at The University of Scranton’s annual Mass of the Holy Spirit.
The Mass, which was held inside the Byron Recreation Complex, is a long-standing tradition at Scranton and Jesuit institutions of higher learning around the world. Its roots date back to the 16th century and its purpose includes reminding the community that education is a spiritual journey, as well as an intellectual pursuit.
All classes were canceled and offices were closed at the University during the Mass, which was followed by a picnic lunch along the Dionne Green and DeNaples Center Patio.
