Zootopia 2 is set to come out later this year, and the director of the film recently revealed a unique Easter egg related to another iconic Disney animated film.
During a 15th anniversary showing of the original Zootopia in Los Angeles this past week, director Byron Howard — who also directed Bolt, Tangled, Encanto, and the upcoming Zootopia 2 — spoke about the upcoming movie.
He revealed the film is just about done, and then added that the movie will actually feature a nod to Howard’s previous work on Tangled.
What is Zootopia 2’s Tangled Easter egg?
According to Howard, Rapunzel’s frying pan will have two “important” appearances in the upcoming sequel. Howard then showed off one of those appearances, showing an image of Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) holding the pan while dressed in a tuxedo. The other image, Howard said, wouldn’t be shown off just yet, so fans will have to wait and see what it is when the movie releases on November 26, 2025.
Zootopia 2 is directed by Encanto filmmakers Jared Bush and Byron Howard, with Bush also writing the screenplay. The sequel will introduce franchise newcomers Ke Huy Quan as Gary De’Snake, Quinta Brunson as Dr. Fuzzby, and Fortune Feimster as Nibbles.
The ensemble cast also includes returning stars Shakira as Gazelle, Idris Elba as Chief Bogo, Bonnie Hunt as Bonnie Hopps, Don Lake as Stu Hopps, Nate Torrence as Clawhauser, Jenny Slate as Bellwether, Alan Tudyk as Duke Weaselton, Maurice LaMarche as Mr. Big, Leah Latham as Fru Fru, Josh Dallas as Frantic Pig, Tommy Chong as Yax, Mark Rhino Smith as Officer McHorn, and Raymond Persi as Flash. It is produced by Yvett Merino.
