Channing Tatum recently revealed that he was “afraid” to work with Kirsten Dunst. Set to feature alongside Dunst in Derek Cianfrance’s Roofman, Tatum opened up about how intimidated he felt sharing the screen with the legendary actress.
Channing Tatum says he just wanted Kirsten Dunst to like him
Channing Tatum shared that he felt intimidated by the prospect of working with Dunst, primarily because of how much he idolized and appreciated her. The Magic Mike star admitted that he has been “obsessed” with Dunst’s body of work. Though only 43, Dunst has been around in the industry for decades.
While talking about Dunst with PEOPLE, he said, “Everything she’s ever done, I’ve been obsessed with.” Tatum also expressed admiration for her performance in the 1994 hit movie, Interview With the Vampire. He added, “I couldn’t imagine doing what she did in that film at that age.”
Due to the kind of respect and admiration he had for Dunst, it made working with her more difficult for Tatum. He stated, “I was so intimidated to work with her — I was afraid. I just wanted her to like me.” “I was like, ‘Please like me!’” he added.
It seems Channing Tatum had to work extra hard to impress an actress he really idolized. Interestingly, the early reviews seem to indicate that the actor did a great job of portraying the character of Jeffrey Manchester in Roofman.
The movie is based on a true story about a spree robber who broke into shops from their roofs. Its synopsis reads, “A former Army Ranger and struggling father turns to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname: Roofman. After escaping prison, he secretly lives inside a Toys “R” Us for six months, surviving undetected while planning his next move. But when he falls for a divorced mom drawn to his undeniable charm, his double life begins to unravel, setting off a compelling and suspenseful game of cat and mouse as his past closes in.”
The movie will come out in theaters on October 10, 2025.
