Gigi Hadid has been a model for years, but she’s now pursuing an acting career as well—and putting in the work. Hadid and Kendall Jenner spoke in their shared Vogue cover story about Hadid’s progress. Hadid revealed that she recently auditioned to play Rapunzel in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Tangled. While she ultimately didn’t get the part, she took singing lessons during fashion month to prep and was proud of her work.
“What do we do in this job anymore that scares us?” Hadid asked Jenner. Of her audition, she added, “I was really proud of my scene. The singing…I knew they were going to go with a real singer, but I’ll show you my audition scene later.”
“I’m stoked,” Jenner replied. “I need to see.”
Hadid and Jenner also hinted they’re both in serious relationships. When asked about the last time they cried in front of each other, Jenner said it was “probably so long ago. Definitely not recently.”
Hadid added, “It’s mostly when we’ve gone through boy stuff, and we’re kind of at the end of that road. I feel like we’re both really strong people and not whiners and complainers, but we’re vulnerable when it’s the time to be.”
Hadid has been dating actor Bradley Cooper for nearly two years—and owes her acting ambition in part to him. In March, Hadid told Vogue that dating Cooper inspired her to explore the new career path. “Bradley has opened me up to going to the theater more, and that’s something that’s so nice to bring back into my life,” she said.
Of the roles she hopes to land, she shared, “I don’t just want to go act in TV and movies as, like, the boring girlfriend.” Doing theater, meanwhile, is “like a dream. That’s scary to say to you.”
But Cooper has made her believe that kind of future is possible: “I respect him so much as a creative, and I feel that he gives so much to me: encouragement and, just, belief,” she said. “For those people you admire to encourage you, it can create so much belief in yourself. Like, what’s the worst thing if I auditioned for this? You jump and take the leap.”
