The screenwriter behind such tentpoles as Wonder Woman and Argylle has been tapped to write the live-action feature adaptation of My Hero Academia, based on one of the best-selling manga series.
Netflix and Legendary are backing the project, which has been developing the project for several years now. Filmmaker Shinsuke Sato, known for his numerous manga adaptations such as Bleach and Kingdom, remains attached to direct the feature.
Academia is set in a world where most of the population has “quirks,” also known as superpowers, and tells of a non-powered fanboy who wants nothing more than to be a superhero. When the world’s greatest hero sees his potential and gifts him powers, the teenager enrolls in a school for superheroes (the school’s motto is “plus ultra,” Latin for “push beyond”). That, of course, is just the beginning of his adventures.
