The first trailer has landed for Song Sung Blue, starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson.
Based on a true story, the film follows Mike Sardina (Jackman) and his wife Claire (Hudson) who form an uplifting Neil Diamond tribute act after they fall on hard times.
As the trailer shows, Mike dreams of impersonating his idol when Claire tells him: “You don’t want to be a Neil Diamond impersonator — you want to be a Neil Diamond interpreter.”
The couple begin performing as Lightning & Thunder and they soon become local celebrities in their Milwaukee town thanks to their live performances.
But it’s not all ‘beautiful noise’ as the couple go through personal highs and lows, juggling their dreams and family life.

Of course, the film is filled with Diamond’s music, including ‘Sweet Caroline’, as heard in the trailer, and ‘The Boat That I Row’.
Song Sung Blue is based on the 2008 documentary of the same name, directed by Greg Kohs, which won both the audience and jury documentary feature awards at the Slamdance Film Festival.
Writing about the doc at the time, Variety described it as “compelling”, adding: “Dysfunction and delusion run rife through a stranger-than-fiction saga that starts out kitschily amusing, then finds drama and pathos in its subjects’ rather hapless progress.”
Song Sung Blue hits US cinemas on 25 December 2025 and UK cinemas on 1 January 2026.
