D4vd Performs, Tosses Labubus to Fans Amid Probe Into Dead Body Found in Tesla

Singer D4vd performed in Minneapolis as planned Tuesday night amid a police probe into the “severely decomposed” body that was found in the trunk of a Tesla registered to the platinum-selling artist.

A source tells Rolling Stone that D4vd was notified of the investigation and is “cooperating” with authorities while on his Withered world tour.

Fans posted video showing D4vd tossing Labubus to the crowd and hyping his hit song “Crashing,” which features the Grammy-winning singer Kali Uchis, inside the Fillmore Minneapolis Tuesday night. He did not address the death investigation at any point, according to social media posts from people at the show.

It was earlier Tuesday that a police spokesman confirmed to Rolling Stone that a “foul odor” led to the discovery of human remains in the trunk of the Tesla impounded at a tow yard on the southern edge of Hollywood in Los Angeles. A law enforcement source later confirmed the Tesla was registered to D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke.

On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner revealed that the victim was a female with wavy black hair and a tattoo on her right index finger that read, “Shhh…” In an online report, the ME said the remains were “severely decomposed.”

“She appears to have been deceased inside the vehicle for an extended period of time before being found. We are unable to determine her age or race/ethnicity. The decedent was wearing a tube top and black leggings (size small),” the report said.

The victim’s height was listed as 5 feet 2 inches. The medical examiner could not determine eye color.

According to the LAPD spokesman, the body was discovered Monday afternoon after the call about the horrible stench. The car had been towed to the lot from the upscale Bird Streets neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills, the Los Angeles Times reported.

As news of the grisly discovery spread, the fashion companies Crocs and Hollister said they were pulling back on a campaign that featured D4vd modeling a “Dream Drop” collaboration between the popular brands. “We are aware of this developing story. With respect to the current situation, we have removed campaign content featuring D4vd while the investigation continues,” the brands said in a joint statement sent to Footwear News.

Burke, who has 3.7 million followers on TikTok, released his debut album, Withered, back in April. He broke through in 2022 with singles “Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me,” which garnered significant traction on social media. He released his debut EP, Petals to Thorns, in May 2023, then followed it up a few months later with The Lost Petals.

Burke has North American dates scheduled through the end of this month, with his last show currently slated for Sept. 20 in Los Angeles. A tour of Europe, the U.K., and Ireland is scheduled to follow in October and November.
