The past couple of years, California native Estevie has been hard at work, reshaping música mexicana under hit-maker’s Ricky Reed’s Nice Life label. After signing with the Grammy-winning producer in 2022, she made a name for herself with music that mixes her bicultural upbringing in the U.S. and Mexico, blending cumbia, pop, and so much more.
After past collaborations ith sierreño sad boys Eslabon Armado, Chicano singer Cuco, and mariacheño wunderkind Christian Nodal. Estevie is making space for Mexican-American Gen-Z girls like herself to thrive in the male-dominated genre — and flirting with a much edgier style. On her latest single, “Somos Peligro,” she joins with Hans El Oso and fully enters her bag girl era.
Estevie’s latest cumbia banger “Somos Peligro” blends the genre with an urbano edge that encompasses música mexicana today. With her alluring voice, Estevie sings about getting caught up in a risky romance without worrying about the consequences. Hans El Oso adds a haunting quality to this irresistible duet that’s going to turn up the heat on Estevie’s career. In the music video, while she is dancing in a bar, a fight breaks out between two men that leads to guns. When a shot is fired off, Estevie holds a rifle as a new song from her upcoming project plays.

Earlier this year, she spoke about the importance of working in her genre. “Making cumbia is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life… I noticed that there really weren’t any new cumbias coming out. So I was like, ‘I got to make some cumbia for the new generation,” she told Rolling Stone back in 2023. “[It’s about] keeping and respecting the traditional ways but adding a new feel to it that could be enjoyable to people of all ages.”
