The network renewed the Emmy-winning satire for a fourth season back in January 2025, before season 3 even premiered. The burning question on everyone’s mind is, where will the next White Lotus resort be? Deadline just reported that creator Mike White and HBO zeroed in on France as the location for the upcoming season. HBO declined to comment to Deadline.
Even before this new reporting, HBO programming executive Francesca Orsi hinted that “chances are somewhere in Europe,” with location scouting reportedly beginning soon after season 3 wraps. This would mark a return to the continent after season 2’s Sicilian sojourn.
HBO has shot each season of The White Lotus at a Four Seasons hotel and will likely continue that tradition. The first three seasons were shot at Four Seasons resorts in Maui, Sicily, and Thailand respectively, and HBO has since formalized its partnership with the luxury hotel chain for filming locations.
As for the France property, “speculation has focused on the famous Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, perched on the tip of the Cap-Ferrat peninsula on the French Riviera, which has strong Hollywood ties with its proximity to Cannes,” Deadline notes.
Before this news, rumors about season 4 filming in Norway surfaced after Reddit sleuths discovered a Norwegian newspaper article claiming Mike White applied for a substantial grant from the Norwegian Film Institute. However, this theory had a major flaw—Norway doesn’t have a Four Seasons resort.
Other potential locations floated included Egypt and Mexico, according to sources speaking to Parade magazine. Both countries have Four Seasons properties that could provide the perfect backdrop for wealthy tourists behaving badly.
One location that seems unlikely? Anywhere cold. Producer David Bernad revealed on The Bill Simmons Podcast that “Mike does not like the cold… he’s a California guy, he’s not built for the cold. Never say never, but I would be surprised.”
Who will be in The White Lotus season 4?
As with previous seasons, expect a largely new ensemble cast with possibly a few returning characters. The show has established a pattern of bringing back select characters—Jennifer Coolidge appeared in seasons 1 and 2, Natasha Rothwell in seasons 1 and 3, and Jon Gries has appeared in all three seasons so far.
While no casting announcements have been made, White has expressed interest in potentially creating an “all-star” season featuring favorites from previous casts. During filming of season 3, he mentioned to Patrick Schwarzenegger the entertaining possibility of getting “you, Jake Lacy and Theo James in the same room.”
The rumor mill is already churning, with casting director Meredith Tucker revealing she received an “emergency” call from an agent whose client claimed to have already auditioned for season 4—despite White not having written a single word of the script yet.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, we can expect the show to follow its established formula: a body is discovered, and we flash back to follow hotel guests and staff in the days leading up to the fateful event.
The series will likely continue exploring themes of wealth, privilege, and cultural clashes between the entitled guests and the staff serving them—all wrapped in White’s signature blend of sharp satire and dark comedy.
When will The White Lotus season 4 be released?
Don’t pack your bags just yet—we’ll likely be waiting a while for season 4. There was a two-year gap between seasons 2 and 3, partly due to industry strikes.
With those disputes resolved and an early renewal already secured, production might move more quickly this time. Still, optimistic estimates point to a release window of autumn/winter 2026, approximately 18 months from now.
