Martin Short can now add ring bearer to his resume.
On Tuesday, Sept. 9, Short appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon alongside his Only Murders in the Building co-stars Selena Gomez and Steve Martin. During the show, Fallon asked the trio how Gomez’s wedding planning was coming along, as she is engaged to music producer Benny Blanco.
“It’s wonderful, I’m very lucky,” Gomez said. “It’s going well, I’m so excited.”
When asked by Fallon if Short and Martin were invited to the wedding, the actress replied, “Course they are; Marty’s the ring bearer.”
Short then acted out how he would give the ring to the couple by getting down on one knee and raising one hand in the air.
“Here’s your ring, Selena,” he said, imitating Lord of the Rings character Golem. “Take it.”
“We are all so excited because we love this lady and we love her fiancé, Bad Bunny,” Short joked while the crowd laughed.
Gomez quickly corrected him, yelling, “Benny Blanco.”
“That’s two different people?” Martin asked.
Short replied, “Yeah completely, kind of the same.”
Jokes aside, Short has been supportive of Gomez and Blanco’s engagement, sharing on the Tuesday, Sept. 9 episode of the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast how excited he was for the wedding.
“I just adore her. I’m so happy that she’s getting married to this fabulous guy, Benny Blanco, who’s just one of the great, cool guys and funny and loose, and she adores him,” he said. “I’m just thrilled for her happiness, and I’m thrilled to get to work with her.”
Short might not be the only celebrity performing special duties on Gomez’s big day. After the couple announced their engagement on Instagram last year, Taylor Swift commented, “Yes I will be the flower girl.”
