Tattletale drop new single ahead of first Canada tour with Next Music from Tokyo

Sapporo-based alt-emo three-piece Tattletale have released their new single ‘babbling’ (‘Katachi no nai kotoba no yō ni’), arriving ahead of the band’s international live debut on Next Music from Tokyo vol 17, a cross-Canada showcase of independent Japanese artists.

Formed in 2020, Tattletale built their name in Hokkaido live houses with a sound that pivots between emo, math rock, and post-hardcore. Their intricate technical work and melodic aggression have drawn comparisons to acts like Ling tosite sigure and Bloodthirsty Butchers, setting themselves apart through sonic contrasts and constant tonal shifts.

The new single adds a new element to the band’s approach, building tension through a careful push and pull between layered and minimal arrangements before giving way to the band’s signature velocity.

Later this month, the band will join Haku., Carpenter’sBlue, and Banshimoku for Next Music from Tokyo vol 17. Since its launch in 2010, the project has earned a cult following in Canada for spotlighting acts well outside the country’s mainstream. Both Toronto dates at the Horseshoe Tavern have already sold out, with shows to follow in Montréal and Vancouver later this month.

About Tattletale

Tattletale formed in Sapporo in October 2020, beginning full-scale activity the following March. The trio are Ryutaro Kawakami (guitar, vocals), Ayumu Takahashi (bass), and Yuya Takemae (drums). Driven by a shared agreement to follow passion rather than polish, the band’s foundation pulls from emo and hardcore, with clear lines to acts like ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, NUMBER GIRL, and THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT.

Within a local scene where mixed-genre bills are standard, Tattletale set themselves the target of being a live band that leaves a physical impression. Kawakami’s writing borrows from the up and down of the everyday rather than grand concepts, from customer complaints at a part-time job to scene peers taking off. That focus on small catalysts and plain language shapes how Tattletale frame emotion inside their sonically turbulent songs.
