Even on digital, James Gunn’s Superman continues to be a blockbuster hit.

Superman, the first movie released as part of the new DC Universe, has enjoyed both critical and commercial success since its release in theaters on July 11. With a worldwide box office gross of over $614 million, Warner Bros. and DC Studios are expected to make around $125 million in profit on the superhero movie.

Gunn’s Superman has also been one of the only superhero hits of the year, with Marvel Studios‘ Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* underperforming at the box office. While Fantastic Four: First Steps was hotter competition for Superman in theaters, even it is still $100 million away from surpassing the DCU entry at the global box office.

How many households watched Superman digitally in its first three days?

According to Samba TV, Superman drew 527 thousand watched households in its first three days on digital, which is an absolutely massive figure when compared against other recent 2025 titles like Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (618K), Thunderbolts* (449K), How to Train Your Dragon (423K), and Ballerina (344K). Making Superman’s digital viewership even more impressive is that it attracted 527 thousand households over just three days, whereas the viewership figures for the other 2025 movies are across their first six days.

With Superman an all-around hit, Warner Bros. and DC Studios aren’t wasting any time getting a sequel into development. Gunn has already finished a draft of the follow-up movie, which has been titled Man of Tomorrow and dated by Warner Bros. for theatrical release in July 2027. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are confirmed to be reprising their roles from Superman as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively, while several other actors have teased their respective returns as well.

Superman is currently available to watch in theaters and on digital platforms. The DCU movie will arrive on home video on September 23, 2025.
