An insider told Rob Shuter’s #ShuterScoop that the producers of the award ceremony were “desperate” to bring both artists on stage. They believed that Madonna “handing the trophy to Gaga” would be an “iconic” moment. “But Madonna wasn’t interested,” they added.
Another source claimed that there might be “still tension there.” Allegedly, the senior celebrity didn’t want to create any passing-the-torch moment. “They’ve had their ups and downs, and Madonna wasn’t going to play into the narrative that she was blessing Gaga. That’s not how Madonna works,” they mentioned.
