Brandon Tyler Moore is about to be all over your television.
The former Alabama football walk-on’s acting career, after a breakthrough appearance in a Law & Order episode nearly three years ago, is taking off with upcoming multiple forthcoming roles. Next month, he’ll appear in Boots, a new Netflix series depicting the trials of Marine enlistment and boot camp. Moore plays Cody Bowman in the eight-episode season that’s set for an Oct. 9 release. He’ll also appear in an episode of FX’s English Teacher, which premieres Sept. 24 on Hulu.
But at age 31, Moore is showing interest in more aspects of the business than just acting.

“I’m producing now, too. I just did some stunt rigging and special effects on a project here in Birmingham. Then I did a PA (production assistant) job just to learn the ins and outs of production on that side,” Moore said. “My PA (on another project) was my boss, so there was this complete dynamic shift, which I love because it keeps you humble. It puts you in that place where you think ‘I’m not too big for any job.’ I got to see on the ground level what it really feels like on the other side.”
In diversifying his experience further, Moore also has had previous work as a stunt man. The Senior will be released next weekend, Sept. 19. It is based on the true story of Mike Flynt, who was the oldest college football player ever at 59. Flynt’s part is played by Moore’s mentor in show business, Michael Chiklis. Moore, drawing on his experience as a walk-on at Alabama from 2012-2017, worked as Chiklis’ stunt double in the film.
Boots, however, is Moore’s biggest role yet, as he appears in all eight episodes. He was in contact with real Marines before shooting, and was shown before-and-after photos of the physical transformation that takes place in boot camp. So in order to portray the rigors of being a Marine with realism, he tried to cut as much weight as possible over the course of shooting the series. That effort included a daily morning cardio workout before shooting, and another workout afterward, and by the end of the project he’d lost 40 pounds.
“We had a scene at an obstacle course where you climb a rope at the end. And you have to shoot it from multiple angles, and if someone messes up, it’s got to be shot again,” Moore said. “We ran that obstacle course for 12 hours. The Marines came up to us afterward and said ‘Kudos, guys, we run this a few times a day and you did it all day in the sun.'”
Moore makes it two successful actors from Alabama’s 2012 national championship team. Caleb Castille, also a walk-on at that time, made his film debut in 2015 and is a regular on NCIS: Los Angeles. Moore said he is close to the Castille family; Caleb’s brothers, Tim and Simeon, played at UA as well, while father Jeremiah was an All-American cornerback at Alabama in 1982. The two have yet to work together on the same project, however.
“Hopefully we can soon,” Moore added.
