Sydney Sweeney stars as Christy Martin in Christy, a biopic about the celebrated boxer

Sydney Sweeney is stepping into the ring for her next movie.
Black Bear Pictures has released the first official trailer for Christy, the forthcoming Christy Martin biopic starring Sweeney, 27, as the celebrated boxer. The movie recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it received a thunderous standing ovation.
“Christy Martin (Sweeney) never imagined life beyond her small-town roots in West Virginia — until she discovered a knack for punching people,” reads an official synopsis for the film. “Fueled by grit, raw determination, and an unshakable desire to win, she charges into the world of boxing under the guidance of her trainer and manager-turned-husband, Jim (Ben Foster).”
“But while Christy flaunts a fiery persona in the ring, her toughest battles unfold outside it — confronting family, identity, and a relationship that just might become life-or-death,” it continues. “Based on remarkable true events, Christy Martin’s story is one of resilience, courage, and the fight to reclaim one’s life.”

Sweeney first shared several glimpses into Christy back in October 2024, when she posted two behind-the-scenes photos from the film.
“Over the past few months, [I’ve] been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman — a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring,” the actress wrote on Instagram at the time.
She added, “Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all.”
Back in June, Sweeney told W Magazine that she trained for more than three months and gained over 30 lbs. to recreate the pro boxer’s toned physique.
“I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour,” she said at the time. “My body was completely different. But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.”

Martin, 57, was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020, marking the first time women were entered on the organization’s ballot.
The athlete totaled 49 wins in her career, including 31 by knockout.
Black Bear Pictures will release Christy in theaters on Nov. 7.
