Christopher Lloyd just enjoyed another career first at 86 years old, and the legendary actor allowed Jimmy Kimmel to be a part of the big milestone.
Kimmel, 57, had the honor of conducting Lloyd’s first-ever late night interview on Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on September 10. Known for being private despite a five-decade career, Lloyd has rarely done talk show interviews, which is what makes his first late night appearance especially notable.
“Well, this is exciting. I heard this is the first interview you ever did on a late night show,” Kimmel said after welcoming the Back to the Future icon to the show.
Lloyd told him that was “correct” before Kimmel said that it “was an honor” to be the person interviewing him.
The Tony nominee has also found a new wave of fans recently with his role in Netflix’s Wednesday, where he played Uncle Fester, proving he appeals to multiple generations.
“Well, I haven’t had a lot of invitations, you know,” the Wednesday star joked, even though Kimmel said he “found that hard to believe.”
While this was Lloyd’s first interview on any late night show, he had actually appeared in a skit on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2015. In Back to the Future 2, Marty McFly travels to October 21, 2015, to save his son, so when that date rolled around in reality, Kimmel couldn’t help but show the ‘80s classic some love.
Michael J. Fox, who played Marty for all three of the Back to the Future films, and Lloyd reunited on Kimmel’s show on October 21, 2015, when the two men emerged from a DeLorean in their signature looks from the movies. Fox, 64, had on jeans, a plaid button down and a red puffer vest, while Lloyd was dressed as his scientist character Doc Brown.
“When I am asked about the highlight of all of my 22 years or whatever doing this show, this is the highlight right there,” Kimmel gushed. “I’ve never heard that much applause in my life. I think it was like nine minutes of straight screaming when you guys got out of that car. We had to edit it down.”

Lloyd was grateful for the compliment and added that it was also “very memorable for him.”
Even at 86, Lloyd is still finding new firsts, and he’s still receiving standing ovations from fans who grew up with Doc Brown.
