Raul Malo has shared devastating news with his fans.
On Thursday, Sept. 11, hit country music band The Mavericks took to Instagram to share they will be cancelling their upcoming weekend of shows.
It turns out the lead singer, who recently shared his “fears” of being deported,” and his battle with colon cancer are the reason the band will not be hitting the road this weekend.
The band wrote, “Due to the circumstances of his current medical condition, Raul’s medical team has instructed him not to be on the road this weekend.
“As a result we’ve had to make the difficult decision to cancel this weekend’s performances in New Haven, Verona & Boston.”
The shows will go on as planned, just not with the band as the nights’ special guests.
“While Raul continues the long road to recovery, we hope you’ll still enjoy an incredible night of music with our great friends Dwight Yoakam and opener Phillip Bowen!”
They concluded, “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and deeply appreciate your continued support during this time.”
The Mavericks were set to join Dwight on the road for his Cosmic Round Up & Rodeo tour. However, plans have changed once Raul headed into a colon surgery last month.
They were given no option but to cancel their performances in Las Vegas and Sante Fe at the beginning of September.
The singer has still not given his fans an update on how the procedure went, however, they had assumed all was well as he began scheduling new concert dates, including a solo show at the end of October.

The last time Raul gave insight into his health battle was in late June, when he shared, “Psychology is an integral part of your physical state. I thought I had everything under control. (BTW, that’s just you lying to yourself) Then the cancer sideshows started to play out.
“My sinus infection literally brought me to my knees,” Raul added. “I had never felt headaches like that. I went to a specialist. Got it taken care of but the residual results are numbing of the left side of my face. Neurologist said it will repair over time.
“The damage is not permanent and not visible. A little drooling here and there … oh well.
He went on to speak about the most “challenging” part of his situation, which was an abdominal hernia.
While the singer admitted it has been “painful” and “really uncomfortable,” he assured “it will be repaired later on in the year as that will require a bit more recovery time.”
Raul mentioned, “I’m not out of the woods yet but I’m on the way.”
