The fifth season of the hit series “Only Murders in the Building” has new murders, new suspects and new music — including a song co-written by David Archuleta.

On Thursday, Archuleta, who was the “American Idol” runner-up in 2008, shared with fans that he co-wrote an original song for the popular Hulu series that stars Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez as an unlikely trio of crime-solvers.
“Super proud of this one!” the singer shared in a post on X. “And it’s one of my favorite shows :)”
Archuleta’s songwriting credit appears at the end of the third and fourth episodes of the new season.
The song, called “Wish You Were Me,” appears to be tied to the self-absorbed character Althea (Beanie Feldstein) — now going by “The” for short — a former friend of Mabel (Gomez) who is now a pop star living in the same apartment building as Mabel and her fellow amateur detectives-turned-friends.
During the fourth episode, a high-tech robot, acting as the building’s new doorman, tells Mabel and Oliver (Short) that Althea has been the most downloaded artist for 13 weeks in a row with her new hit (which, in the third episode, serves as her ring tone when her therapist calls).
In a condescending manner, Althea then asks Mabel: “How’s your little podcast going?”
Before Mabel can respond, the robot interjects, “Their listens are 24% lower than their Season 4 teaser,” as Oliver (Short) gives it a little kick.
What else is David Archuleta up to?
Archuleta released the EP “Earthly Delights” — his first new music in five years — in August, and is currently on tour.
Earlier this month, the former longtime Murray, Utah, resident returned to the Beehive State for a show at Salt Lake City’s The Complex.
