Henry Cavill has reportedly sustained an injury during pre-production training for Highlander, the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists reboot of the cult classic franchise.
According to reports from Deadline shared on Thursday, September 11, the on-set accident was serious enough to force production delays, pushing filming back until early next year. At this time, there is no word on what the specific injury was or the severity.
The new Highlander movie features an impressive cast alongside Cavill, 42, including Russell Crowe, Djimon Hounsou, and Dave Bautista. According to the outlet, Amazon and UA secured the full rights to the original 1986 Highlander film, with the possibility of expanding the universe into additional movies and even a television series.
The original Highlander starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, and while not initially a major box office hit, the film found a massive audience through the 1980s home video market. Its cult success inspired multiple sequels, a long-running TV series, and a loyal fanbase that has kept interest in the franchise alive for decades.
For the Man of Steel actor, the reboot marks another role in his thriving career. He has several projects in post-production, including Voltron, In the Grey, and Enola Holmes 3 for Netflix. In 2024 alone, Cavill starred in three major releases — Deadpool and Wolverine, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and Apple Original Films’ Argylle.
Though the accident is expected to delay production, anticipation remains high for Cavill’s take on Highlander — especially with Stahelski at the helm, who is best known for reinventing modern action with the John Wick franchise.
