Every time that we get a rare red-carpet appearance from Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, it’s cause for celebration. But no such thing happened tonight.
As the Hollywood stars strolled onto the red carpet in Los Angeles’s Peacock Theater, and into the ceremony for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, there was one couple that was notably absent, and that was the Sussexes.
As readers know, Meghan and Harry live in Montecito, California, with their two kids, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4. And while the glamorous, star-filled Cali town of Montecito is just about a two-hour drive from L.A. the royals decided to opt out of the Hollywood event tonight.
The duke and duchess have surprised fans at starry events before. Meghan attended the Variety Women of Power Event in L.A. in late 2023, as well as the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala in 2024. She also spoke at the Time100 Summit in New York City this year, and she and Harry attended Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour show in L.A., as well as a James Taylor concert in Santa Barbara.
Their absence tonight likely is due to the fact that neither Harry nor Meghan were nominated for acting awards, nor are they involved in any television and film projects that would qualify for an Emmy nomination. Though the Sussexes do have many TV projects under their belts—including Harry & Meghan, With Love, Meghan, The Me You Can’t See, and the Heart of Invictus—they are sadly not the kind of shows that the Emmys would recognize. Sigh.
