Ben Stiller is not ruling out a reunion with his movie mom for his upcoming film, Focker-In-Law. The fourth installment of the Meet the Parents sequel has already started filming, but that doesn’t mean the cast is entirely finalized yet.
During an appearance on the Emmy Awards red carpet on Sept. 14, Stiller, 59, was asked if Barbra Streisand would return to play matriarch Roz Focker in the new film—and he didn’t say no. The music legend previously appeared in Meet the Fockers in 2004 and Little Fockers in 2010.
“It’s always a possibility,” Stiller teased of Streisand’s potential return. “I’m not gonna say anything. I didn’t say no, but I said I’m not gonna say anything.”
Elsewhere, Stiller teased to E! News that negotiations with Streisand were happening. “I mean, we all would love it — we’re in process,” he said, per Deadline.
The Meet the Parents movie series debuted in 2000 with Stiller’s character, nurse Greg Focker, meeting his future wife’s (Teri Polo) parents (Robert DeNiro, Blythe Danner) for the first time. Streisand and Dustin Hoffman played the Focker in-laws in the two sequels.
Streisand originally downplayed her possible involvement in the new film. In June, she told Variety that producers would need to show her the money to get her to return after the skimpy salary she received for Meet the Fockers.
“Oh my God. They’d have to pay me a lot of money because I didn’t get paid what the other people got paid and so I’m p—ed off.,” she said. “I was in the time when women were getting paid less than the men. The head of Universal was Ron Meyer at the time, and he actually sent me a bonus check.”
In 2011, sources told Page Six in 2011 that Stiller and De Niro each earned $20 million for Little Fockers, while Hoffman was paid $7.5 million. Streisand reportedly earned $7 million for her role in the hit film.
