Saskatoon’s rising alt-country artist Cooper Tropeau has released his latest single, “The Last Time,” a standout track from his second studio album Cooper Tropeau & The Broken Bones.

The song dropped alongside the album and showcases Tropeau’s signature mix of grit, heart, and genre-blending creativity.

A Song About Strength in Letting Go

“The Last Time” is a track built for anyone who has ever struggled to move on from something—or someone—they’ve outgrown. Tropeau sums it up simply:

“The Last Time” is a song for anyone who’s ever held onto something longer than they should’ve. It’s about finally letting go, and the quiet kind of strength it takes to do that.”

That emotional core is brought to life through rich instrumentation, including violin, piano, and gang vocals that create a soaring back-and-forth between male and female lines. The song also features Saskatoon-based artist DREAMBOAT!, adding depth and texture to the track’s storytelling.

Behind the Song

Recorded with his band The Broken Bones, the single was co-written by Tropeau and SJ Kardash, who also produced the track at Full Color Recording. Band members Liam Santha and EJ Friesen also contributed to the instrumental writing and creative direction, making “The Last Time” a true collaborative effort.

Building Momentum

At just 24 years old, Cooper Tropeau is carving out a place in Canada’s alt-country landscape. Leading his four-piece band The Broken Bones, Tropeau has already earned over 400K streams and a reputation for high-energy, genre-blurring live shows. Cooper Tropeau & The Broken Bones follows standout singles like “Prairie Fire” and “These Hands,” cementing the group’s spot as one of the most exciting independent acts to watch.

With “The Last Time,” Tropeau delivers not just another single, but an anthem for anyone learning how to let go.

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
