American rapper DaBaby released a clip for the track Save Me, dedicated to Ukrainian Iryna Zarutska, who recently became a victim of violence in the United States. The artist confirmed his new release with an Instagram post. The video depicts a scene of an attack on 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska: DaBaby is depicted as a passenger in a train car during the tragic event, and in the frames characters connected to the investigation appear, including Dekarlos Brown and Iryna herself.

The clip opens with a news segment about the Ukrainian woman’s death, and the song’s lyrics begin with the line: “You think you can save me?” The piece presents an artistic reconstruction of the events with a positive ending: the main character blocks the attacker and seeks help from the police, who ultimately take the offender away.

At the end of the video a screenshot of the GoFundMe platform appears with the inscription “In memory of Iryna Zarutska” and information about fundraising to support her family.

About the real tragedy and the timeline of events

On August 22 in Charlotte, North Carolina, at a rapid transit station, the body of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, who moved to the United States after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, was found. According to police, Iryna was fatally stabbed. The suspect – 34-year-old Dekarlos Brown – was arrested on the scene and transported to the hospital with injuries not life-threatening. He was charged with first-degree murder. The motive remains unknown; the investigation is ongoing. Police records also indicate that Brown had been detained several times since 2011 for various offenses, but most charges were dismissed. In January 2025 he was charged with improper use of the 911 emergency system; the investigation continues.

In the context of the case, there was talk of potential social impact: U.S. President Donald Trump urged for the death penalty for Dekarlos Brown, and businessman Elon Musk pledged to donate one million dollars to create murals depicting Iryna Zarutska. They also mention appeals to the public via social networks and discuss the role such a story plays in public discourse.

This event underscores the importance of supporting the family of the deceased and reminds of the urgency of addressing violence abroad, particularly toward Ukrainians living in the United States since the war began. The imagery in the clip and public reactions show how art can become a platform for highlighting tragic realities and providing emotional support to loved ones.
