Charlie Sheen is opening up about Matthew Perry in a way that has left fans stunned.

In a new interview, Sheen revealed that he believed Perry was not sober while promoting his 2022 memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.”

The “Two and a Half Men” star said he could hear signs of struggle in Perry’s voice even as the “Friends” actor spoke publicly about recovery. His remarks have reignited questions about Perry’s final months before his untimely death.

Charlie Sheen Believed Matthew Perry ‘Wasn’t Sober’

During a September 16 chat with Piers Morgan on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Charlie Sheen said he noticed troubling signs while listening to Perry’s book tour.

“I could tell he wasn’t sober, talking about a book that is all about sobriety and recovery,” the 60-year-old explained.

He admitted that hearing the late actor promote a story of healing while sounding unwell struck him as deeply sad, and made him feel very bad for Perry.

Sheen recalled hearing an audiobook clip and described how Perry’s voice no longer had the same sharp delivery he was known for.

“When I heard a little snippet from the audio book, he didn’t have that perfect, specific, laser focused diction that he always had, delivering comedy or anything at the level that he did. So I could hear a man who was … handicapped,” he said.

Although Sheen admitted he and Perry were never particularly close, he said the memoir left a powerful impression on him.

He explained that he read the book in a single day and described himself as “so proud of him and inspired by it.”

Sheen also noted that Perry had referenced him in the memoir, writing, “Eff Charlie Sheen and I’m going to be that famous one day too.”

Reflecting on that connection, Sheen told Morgan that he thought about reaching out but ultimately didn’t.

“Then I wanted to reach out, you know, because I’m in his book … And I didn’t. I think he died, like, three weeks after I read the book.”

Looking back, the “Platoon” star said he wished he had shared his support and personal experiences with Perry, even if it couldn’t have changed the outcome.

For Sheen, the tragedy hit close to home. The actor has battled his own addiction struggles for decades, a story he has chronicled in his upcoming memoir, “The Book of Sheen.”

He said his perspective made him particularly sensitive to Matthew Perry’s condition.

“I could feel that sort of the prison that he, you know, put himself in,” he said, acknowledging the pain of addiction.

While he never made the call to the 54-year-old, Sheen hopes his honesty will help others understand the brutal reality behind addiction and sobriety.

Matthew Perry’s Shocking Death And Investigation

Perry was found unresponsive in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023, and was later pronounced dead.

A toxicology report released in December revealed he died from “acute effects of ketamine.”

Investigators discovered Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusions as treatment for anxiety and depression, but the last official treatment had been more than a week before his death.

This discrepancy triggered a deeper investigation into how the fatal dose was obtained.

In August 2024, prosecutors brought federal charges against five individuals in connection to Perry’s death.

The charges included “conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death,” a shocking revelation that rocked Hollywood and Perry’s fans around the world.

One of those charged was Jasveen Sangha, infamously nicknamed the “Ketamine Queen.”

As The Blast reported, she admitted to supplying the ketamine that led to Matthew Perry’s fatal overdose. She faces up to 65 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for December 2025.

Sangha was part of a network that included Dr. Salvador Plasencia and Dr. Mark Chavez, both of whom have also pleaded guilty to distributing ketamine to Perry.

The investigation revealed that the Hollywood icon had been using ketamine legally for depression treatment but sought more than prescribed, leading to his tragic death.

Speaking about the situation, Richard Taite, the founder of Carrara treatment and a leader in celebrity rehab care, said that he wasn’t shocked, but he was “angry.”

He explained that addiction was a daily battle for many, adding that people didn’t need a dealer, making it worse.

According to Taite, celebrities were especially vulnerable to predatory dealers, noting, “For the average person, drugs are about availability. For celebrities, they’re about secrecy.”

He added that a dealer was often the “trusted source,” but really, they were the most dangerous people in the room.
