Pentatonix star Scott Hoying and partner Rylee Arnold kicked off the season with a tango performance.
Fans were rioting on social media after learning of their overall week 1 score.
Dancing With the Stars just kicked off season 34, and fans are already riled up about one couple’s performance!
The latest installment of the hit ABC and Disney+ series premiered on September 16, where fans got to see Pentatonix star Scott Hoying hit the dance floor for the first time. Dancing a tango to Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra,” the singer’s performance with partner Rylee Arnold had everyone cheering. But when it came time to receive feedback from judges Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli (fellow judge Carrie Ann Inaba couldn’t film the season 34 premiere episode due to an undisclosed illness), they had a different opinion on the duo’s first dance.
Derek and Bruno each scored them a 5 for their tango (meaning, they got 10 out of 20).
Shortly after Rylee and Scott danced their first routine, fans immediately went to bat for them on social media.
“RYOTT because this was better than a 5!!” one person shouted on Instagram. “‘Oop that’s a ten in total…’ SCOTT AND RYLEE YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A TEN IN MY EYES,” another exclaimed. “That score was WAY TOO LOW!!! Great dancing @scotthoying 🔥🔥🔥 So proud of you!” a different follower added.
Even though the judges had different thoughts about Scott and Rylee, they certainly aren’t letting that slow them down. In fact, Rylee told Good Housekeeping ahead of the show’s premiere how thrilled she was to be partnered with Scott for this season of Dancing With the Stars.
“Scott is just the best,” she told us back in September. “I was so happy when I found out he was partner, because I’m such a fan of him and Pentatonix. So, when I knew he was my partner, I was thinking this is such an amazing opportunity for me and I just can’t wait to explore it. He’s such a creative person, so I can’t wait to collaborate with each other and play with ideas for different dances. I think it’s going to be a really special season for the both of us.”
Looks like we’ll have to tune in next week, and see how Rylee and Scott fare for their next dance!
