A beloved game show will take over the Jimmy Kimmel Live! time slots on ABC.
On Wednesday, September 17, Disney’s ABC told NPR and other outlets that “Jimmy Kimmel Live will be preempted indefinitely,” after Nexstar Media Group — which operates 32 ABC stations — decided to preempt the long-running talk show over the 57-year-old host’s remarks on Charlie Kirk’s death.
In place of the late-night show, repeat episodes of Celebrity Family Feud, hosted by Steve Harvey, will air in the 11:35 p.m. hour slot on Wednesday and Thursday this week, according to Variety.
ABC affiliates were alerted to the change on Wednesday via a memo from the ABC Affiliate Board, which noted “formal guidance from Disney/ABC is forthcoming,” per Variety.
Sinclair Broadcast Group also preempted Jimmy Kimmel Live! and, according to the Daily Mail, they will now air a remembrance special for Kirk in Kimmel’s Friday night slot.
As the National Enquirer previously reported, Kirk was shot and killed on Wednesday, September 10, while speaking at Utah Valley University. He was 31 years old.
On the Monday, September 15 episode, Kimmel made remarks about the shooting, saying, “The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”
Last week the TV personality posted a statement on Instagram about Kirk’s death.
“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?” he penned. “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents, and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”
