It has been a tough few days for Mike Wolfe and his girlfriend, Leticia Cline, after the pair were hospitalized as a result of being involved in an awful car crash.
As per Leticia’s recent Instagram post, the American Pickers star, 61, was driving with his model girlfriend, 46, “in an old Porsche 356” when, on Friday, September 12, they were “in a terrible car accident on Hwy 7 outside Columbia, TN.”
Leticia explained, “A man driving an SUV pulled out from a side street, and we had little to no time to react. We were in an old Porsche 356, with Mike driving, and although we were both wearing seatbelts, they were only lap belts. My side took most of the impact as Mike tried to swerve to miss the other driver.”
“I remained in the hospital until yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon. My injuries are more extensive: a dislocated jaw that is also broken in three places, a broken sternum, broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and bruising to my spine. I’ve already had one procedure, and my major surgery is scheduled for Monday, the 22nd. After that, I’ll leave with a wired jaw and a long road of rehab ahead,” the former model continued.
Leticia also gushed about how “lucky” she was to avoid some more serious damage to herself and thanked her friends and family, including her boyfriend Mike, for being by her side.
After being involved in such a traumatic accident as a car crash, the Express US reached out to Dr. Candice Cooper, a Certified Sex Therapist (CST) through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). Dr Cooper weighed in on how such events can impact a relationship.
Dr Candice, Owner, Therapist, CEO at A New Creation Psychotherapy Services, began, “With a big physical injury like that, the mental toll is massive, so it typically impacts relationships too.
“Trauma tends to amplify what already exists within relationships. Trivial bickerings can turn into more intense arguments, and emotional distance can increase.
“On the other hand, trauma can also bring couples closer; surviving a serious injury often puts it into perspective that spending time together is what matters most. I see clients who have strong bonds in relationships that get even stronger in the face of adversity,” she continued.

The expert also pointed out how “Leticia likely has guilt, fear, or anxiety that comes with a serious traumatic event,” noting, “These emotions can’t simply be fixed by Mike, so it’s important that he stays present, patient, and supports her with the small gestures.
“Usually, when a partner experiences something traumatic, their other half is in a hurry to help them get over it. It’s a normal response as we don’t want to see our partner hurt, and we want to relieve the emotional burden. Unfortunately, Mike can’t heal this for her, and it will test his patience,” Dr Cooper warned.
As a result, the therapist suggested, “The best thing Mike can do is sit with her in silence, offer reassurance instead of advice or lectures and be there to help her with all the small physical tasks possible. Mike can also do his best to lighten the mood. Laughing at the absurdity of their situation or even making light-hearted jokes can help shift Leticia’s focus away from the traumatic events.”
